Many parents know the financial strain that can come with their children’s growth spurts. When you child grows four inches in one summer you might feel like you and you and your pocket book cannot keep up, but there are ways that you can make you child’s clothes and your budget stretch through a growth spurt.
If you know that your child is growing, buy clothes that are little to large. It will not only give them room to grow but it will save you some money. If you are buying pants that are too long there are double sided clips that you can buy that will allow you to shorten your child’s pants temporarily and then lengthen them as they grow.
If all of our child’s pants are too short for them, turn the pants into shorts. You can crop the pants at the knee to give them a great pair of capris or you can cut the to an appropriate length for shorts. You could also roll the pants to slightly above the ankle and sew them to make them look like fashionable rolled pants.
When you are buying clothes for your child always look for clothes that can be hemed. Rather than buy clothes that fit perfectly, buy clothes larger and see if a seamtress can hem the garments. Later, let the hems out to give your child a little more life in the outfit.
A great tip is wait to buy expensive school clothes until right before school and then restock your child’s wardrobe around Christmas time. If you buy your kids summer and school clothes all through summer chances are you child will outgrow the items that you have purchased them. Make clothes last as long as you can before buying new clothes that way you can better gauge what size your child is when they return to school.
