There will be many times within your professional career when you will be interviewing. Always remember that first impressions will account for a great part of the interview. The person who is interviewing you will need to make sure that you not only look professional, but that you look like the type of person they would want to hire. In this tough economic time, first impressions are much more important.
Make sure that you are wearing something professional. Black pants or a skirt would be the most appropriate thing to wear to an interview. Pair it with a nice top. Men should wear button up shirts and women should wear nice blouses. If the place that you are applying at is slightly less formal than it is fine to wear jeans, but make sure that the jeans you wear are nice with no holes or stains. However, pair jeans with a nice shirt or blouse.
Keep jewelry to a minimum. Chances are, if you have any facial piercings you will not be given as good an evaluation as if you did not have any, so take out any facial piercings or wear a clear alternative piece. You can wear earrings but they should be appropriate. Do not wear long earrings or large hoops.
Cover any tattoos. Many employers want their employees to cover any visible tattoos when they work for the company as it is more professional and gives a better impression for the company. If you have full sleeves, wear a long sleeve shirt. If you are unable to cover your tattoos, wear professional clothing to make sure that the person who is interviewing will take you seriously.
