There is fine line that teenagers walk between childhood and adulthood. You are probably looking at your child’s attire choices and wondering just how they think they can wear something so sexy, but you need to remember that they are just learning about their sensuality and need to be encouraged to wear appropriate clothing.
If your teenager is dressing to sexy you might need to have a conversation with them. The reason behind the clothes may have more to do with attention then you think. They might feel insecure and need reassurance. Teenagers are just learning about the opposite sex and attraction. You need to help them see that sexy does not mean showing a lot of skin. Help to show them that wearing clothes that you feel comfortable and confidnet in is sexier than wearing clothing that is revealing.
If you do not understand your child’s style, do not just assume that you are out of it, listen to why they are dressing the way they are. Remember that we express ourselves with our clothing so try and learn what your child’s clothing is saying about them.
Labels and brands are very important in high school. If your child wants to shop at a particular store that is out of your budget, do not just blow them off. See if there is a store that offers name brands at a discount price. Encourage your child to get a job to help pay for their fashion. Not only will your child learn about money but will feel independent being able to purchase their own clothing.
